Mother's Day Flowers

The Origins of Mother's Day

The origins of Mother’s Day dates back to the Ancient Greeks, as they celebrated the goddess Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. Our love for our mothers has been a deep part of our lives for as long as the gods lived.

Move ahead to the 20th century, and a young American named Anna Jarvis lobbied for a special day to celebrate mothers, after the death of her own.  In 1914 the US introduced ‘Mother’s Day’ as an official holiday on the second weekend in May. And the next year it became an official holiday in Canada.

Flowers were introduced when children picked them on the way home from church to give to their mother’s. And even though modern times brought more commercialism to the occasion, it still remains all about showing loving appreciation to our mothers.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there!
